WHAT A PRIVILEGE TO BE AN AMERICAN.
In my opinion, this is a statement of fact. So fortunate are we to call ourselves Americans, yet many of us unwittingly take so much for granted even as we in Hampton Roads home to the largest US Naval Base and Citizens across the Nation are granted so much.
Today I stopped to reflect on what Veterans Day signifies. Each year on November 11, Veterans Day is commemorated – This holiday was originally established in 1918 and known then as Armistice Day to mark and celebrate the end of World War I.
But after U.S. involvement in World War II and the Korean War, congress authorized in 1954 the holiday to be changed to recognize all veterans of all wars. It allows us to revere our soldiers past and present.
Much of what we are freely able to do and speak without hesitation is the result of so many amazing, brave, and selfless men and women who have served in our armed forces to protect the rights and freedoms that I and my fellow Americans enjoy. They have sacrificed and continue to endure hardships so that we can enjoy our freedoms. I know this because I fully supported heroic veterans as a proud military family member and knew of the deep devotion and dedication to our country and all it stands for. True heroes are these family veterans and other veterans I am fortunate to call close friends.
It was imperative for me to take this moment to highlight and HONOR OUR VETERANS – valiant warriors of the most powerful and respected military in the world. I cannot express in words my utter gratitude for your courageous sacrifices. Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to each and every Veteran of the United States of America! May God Bless You!
